I have just published a new edition of Songs of an Irish Poet: The Mary O’Leary Story. In its previous incarnation the book had the somewhat unpronounceable title (unpronounceable, that is, for people who don’t speak Gaelic) of Máire Bhuí Ní Laoire: A Poet of her People. It’s about an ancestor of mine, one of the most celebrated Irish-language folk poets of the nineteenth century. Nominated for the Irish Times LIterature Prize in 2001, it examines the phenomenon of one of the few female oral poets of her generation to achieve name recognition after her death, and contains translations of all her poems. The expanded new edition contains family trees, Irish census information, and other details that had to be omitted from the original publication for space reasons. The list price is $19.95 CDN, but if you click on this link, you can buy it for the bargain price of $12.50 CDN, with no sales tax and free shipping anywhere in the world. I will, of course, be happy to personally autograph every copy sold.
